Hey gal, this is me… My name is Ashling Sumner and I’m 24 from Brisbane. I was a professional tennis player until injuries came along which lead me to become a tennis coach. I look after boys and girls of all ages but recently I have become more of a female base coach in order to be a role model towards young girls and share my knowledge and past experiences with them.
If I were to describe myself in three words… Friendly, bubbly, adventurous.
I always blow my pay-check on… Food & clothes!
I’m currently… Tennis coaching and mentoring young girls with a passion for tennis. Recently I have also decided to move to Paris and start a new adventure!
I got into it because… I always loved playing sports from a young age and was quite athletic. Tennis was my favourite one and the one I stuck with.
What I love about it… The life experience it has given me and the fact that I have friends all over the world now that I still keep in touch with. From a young age I travelled all over the world playing tournaments so being able to visit different countries from a young age was amazing.
What I don’t love about it … The fact that I had to be professional and mature from a young age. So not as much as a social life as most teenagers. Instead of going to parties or formals with friends I would most of the time have to play tournaments or prepare for tournaments.
What I’ve learned from the experience… That I know I can push myself more than I think I can handle and that behind success comes a lot of hard work. Life isn’t always easy and if you want something in life you need to work for it.
My advice to anyone pursuing this pathway is… Enjoy the adventure and the good friends you will meet throughout it.
I’m passionate about…
- Trying my best everyday to be the best person I can be.
- Helping others and being friendly.
- Living life to the fullest as life is short and if it doesn’t bring you happiness its not worth it.
Most people don’t know this about me, but… My birthday is on Christmas day…. and I love dogs and cute animals (cockroaches and spiders are a big no).
P.s In 5 years time I’ll be… Hopefully have seen a lot more of the world and be a lot more cultured and understanding about the world we live in.
